Parihaka

In class we are learning about Parihaka.
The people in Parihaka are very peaceful and wouldn't harm a fly and I mean that they wouldn't and when the English came to take there land and kill everyone there, the children sang and danced to them and the woman made bread  for them (like Jesus said " if someone hits you on the cheek offer them the other) and they felt so bad they didn't kill them but they did take all the men to jail for no reason so sad, but at lest they didn't kill them.

Napier

In class we are learning to write recounts.
I enjoyed pair assessing.
I found using adjectives tricky.
Our success criteria was...
*Use some long and some short sentence
*Use adjectives and adverbs
*Use juicy verbs to start a sentence
*Use a simile or metaphor
*Keep to one main idea in each paragraph
* Edit for spelling and punctuation
*Use a hook
“We're here” my mum exclaimed as I slowly woke up from a long sleep in the car. Where in Napier. Arriving at the hotel was very surprising because it was a five star hotel “WOW” I remarked, my dad repeated me.We walked to the counter, slowly admiring the painting. The next morning we got up earlier than ever to take my mum to a bus that would take her to Cape Kidnappers. After a while, we had to pick up Mum, but unfortunately we missed her come in and get a medal. After all that, we went to the ocean spa, Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh we went in a boiling hot spa and a freezing cold spa. The absolutely freezing cold pool was taller than my dad by about 3 inches so it was really hard to stay up “Dad! Help!” I would say as I slowly drifted under the water.

Then we drove back to Gisborne.

Laser Tag

Running, jumping, hiding, laser tag. It started like any old day. Dad tries to wake me up I say "5 more minutes".
He says "OK".
10 minutes later "come down for breakfast charlotte!" dad yells.
"5 more minutes" I say hesitantly.                                                      I eventually get my tired body out of bed and ready for what the day brings.  Today was different though - although I didn't know it at the time.
Dad dropped me off at Central school for Events 4 all. Nothing unusual there.
After morning tea at Events 4 all everyone walked to Waiteata park.  Nothing unusual there.  To Play LASER TAG.  Now that is something different!

I was one of the lucky people who got to go first, YAY! Although we weren't meant to, we changed the sound effects. After my groups first round it was Girls vs Boys. It was on, we would sneak up on them and they would sneak up on us. We tried to take over the Boys base, but it didn't work out great.

Then, after all of that we walked back to Central school and had lunch.

My Sleepover

In class we are learning to describe.
I enjoyed writting it.
I found including a simile hard.

I heard a knock on the door. People started coming in and the sleepover started. Isabelle was the first to go to sleep, the rest of us, India, Catalina and I stayed up till 1:00. We were pretty tired, but the whole time we were trying to wake Isabelle up. Catalina even said, "I dream of magical dreams" in her ear. That was funny. Eventually we went to sleep.
When we woke up Catalina felt something on her leg. "What was it?" we all said. Then out of the depths came a cockroach.  It was as big as an elephant. We all started screaming so loud we woke Isabelle up. She got the cockroach but the look on her face was priceless.

Make up!!! We ran up the stairs, woke up my sister and and we all put make up on even Isabelle put some on and that is a once in a life time. We put blush, foundation, mascara and lipstick on. We were super models.
Running down stairs to have a dance party, we danced like nobody was watching. Also we played "try not to sing." India and I were always out.

2019 Speech

This week we presented our speeches to the class.
I felt so nervous I was shaking.
We had to include our pepeha a rhetorical question and be persuasive.
We had to use a clear voice, stand still, speak loudly, go at our own pace, look up at the crowd, use expression and be confident.
My speech was about Orcas (Killer Whales).

Here it is...

Tihei Mauri ora
Ko Pepeha ki ahau
Ko Ben Nevis Te maunga
Ko Loch Morar Te awa
Ko southern cross Te waka
Ko ST Mary’s star of the sea Te marae
No Turanga-nui-a-kiwa ahau
Ko Hato Maria toku kura
Ko Charlotte ahau
No reira, tena koutou, tena koutou, tena koutou katoa.

Would you like to be stuck in a tank your whole life? Well some Orcas are, and today I am going to tell you some facts about orcas. But first I have to tell you a story about an Orca called Tillikam.
To train Tillikam they would put him in a tank with another trained whale, and if Tillikam didn’t do his tricks properly both whale’s wouldn’d get feed, so the other whale would beat Tillikam and Tillikam  would have  scratches all over him.

In captivity female Orcas live up to 29 years of age male Orcas live up to 17. In the wild male Orcas live up to 20 to 60 years of age and female Orcas 80 to over 100. Wow  isn’t that such a difference.
Orcas weigh up to 6 tons and grow to twenty3 to thirty2 feet, that is almost as long as a school bus, imagine seeing one of those up close. Even though Orcas can also be called Killer Whales they are actually part of the Dolphin family. Because of their large size and huge power, Orcas are very fast swimmers and have been recorded at speeds of up to 54km/h.

Nobody really knows where the name Killer  Whales came from. Some people think that they were called ‘Killers of Whales’ by whalers in the past, and the name became ‘Killer Whales’ over time, and in Latin Orca actually means  Killer Whale. Do Orcas have predators You might ask? Well actually they don't have predators, because they are  at the very top of the food chain. Okay, are you getting kind of scared now I know I am, but don’t worry the only time Orcas have killed people are when there in captivity like Tillikam saddly he killed 3 people 2 of them trainers. This wouldn't have happened if he wasn’t in captivity.

Climate change should be stopped!!

In class we are learning to structure writing.

I enjoyed finding out the facts about climate change.

I found voice typing hard because it wasn't typing the words I was saying.

What is climate change and what is it doing to our planet?

Climate change is different from global warming. Global warming is the world getting warmer. Climate change is more sun, rain, wind and snow.

One of the main reasons is the burning of the Amazon rainforest. It covers most of Brazil and you can see the smoke from space. The rainforest is also known as the Earth's lungs, because it produces 20% of the Earth's oxygen, and it has millions of animals.

Another cause of climate change is the use of fossil fuels such as oil, diesel, petrol and coal. It releases too much hot air, and carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

A result of climate change is the glaciers and the ice caps are melting. Sea levels are rising and lowlands are flooding. Ocean’s are getting warmer and this can affect some fish.

In conclusion I believe that we have to do something about climate change. It is important to stop all the fires in the Amazon rainforest. We could also change from petrol and diesel cars to electric cars. Otherwise there will be too much carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, so please help stop climate change.

Caged Chicken Should Be Banned!!!!

We are learning to structure speeches.
I enjoyed learning the facts.
I found trying to make it make sense.

Would you like to be stuck in a cage
I firmly believe that caged chickens should be banned!

One of the main reasons is they don’t have enough room so they get squashed. Each hen has the same amount of space as an A4 piece of paper. 82% of hens that Produce eggs are caged. In one shed there are 45,000 chickens.

Another very important  reason is they can’t act like a chicken. Chickens like to scratch for food and have dust bath in cages they can’t. They can’t even stretch their wings let alone just stretch. I mean I wouldn’t like that I don’t know about you.

Also they get lots of diseases. One of the diseases are weak bones A.K.A osteoporosis. They also get rickets because lack of vitamin D.

In conclusion I believe that caged chickens should be banned because of the diseases, they get squashed, and they can't be a chicken.
