Mary Mackillop

Today is Mary MacKillop's feast day.

Our school took us to church to celebrate.

Who is Mary MacKillop?
Saint Mary Helen Mackillop was an Australian nun, who thought she would help children.

What did Mary MacKillop do?
She  was a teacher and was also a Josephite nun.

How did Mary MacKillop become a saint?
In June 1995 MacKillop was beatified by Pope John Paul 2nd. In February 2010, after an Australian woman who claimed that her cancer had disappeared after she prayed to Mary MacKillop, Pope Benedict 16th recognized MacKillop as a saint. She was canonized that October.

Winter

We are learning to use descriptive words.
I enjoyed voice typing.
I found  the summary challenging.

Outside, stiff crunchy grass numbed your toes.
Frosty cold snowflakes fell from above.
Grey, calm sky as still as a turtle, slept.
Goosebumps shivered down me as I ran to the car.

Fizz, Foam And Froth

In class we have been learning about chemical reaction.
I enjoyed seeing it all bubbled up
I found it challenging to write how it happened.

Have you ever wondered what makes things fizz, foam and froth?
A physical change is reversible, like  how you can change ice back into water. A chemical change is irreversible. First, you put baking soda and a cup, then you add vinegar and it will explode. How did it happen? Well when you added the vinegar you changed the properties of the baking soda and that makes it explode.

Mix It Up

In  class we have been doing science experiment.
I enjoyed using the magnet to take out the iron filing.
I found it challenging to put the raro and sand into the filter paper.

this is what we did...

Why do some ingredients seem to disappear when you mix them together? Why don't others? A mixture is a combination of two or more substances that cannot be chemically combined. If you put Iron filings with sand and raro you can get the iron filings out with a magnet.

If you add water to the raro and sand and pour it in a filter paper the sand will stay at the top. Then put the raro in the sun and the water will evaporate.
