SUMMER POEM!

The sun is shining bright.

Birds are chirping all through the night.

All the kids come out to play, while others are taking trips away.

It is SUMMER!

So go to the beaches go have a swim

but make sure you don’t forget a hat with a brim.

Golden sand between your toes,

As the ocean water flows,

In and out on the sand.

Summer Summer Nothing Is FUNNER!!

Waterfall Poem

In class we are learning how to write a poem we could either write a poem about a waterfall or a canal

Here Is My Poem...

Tree’s guarding the hidden fall, the Waterfall is crowded like a mall with Tiny creatures crawling through the bush.
All the creatures go into the mush.
Water crashing as fish are dancing. The leaves are prancing in the wind.
All kinds of colors red, orange and green like nothing i have ever seen.
As the water splashes in the sun,
Waters falling by the tone.

Letter To Mrs Nicoll

In class we got put in groups and had to solve something that we thought needed to be fixed about the school, most people did the playground equipment, my group did the rubbish problem. Then we had to think of an idea to fixed it, we thought if we get a school pig it would encourage people to put rubbish in bins. next we had to write a letter to a person that could help us and on the letter we had to put something we had made with the app "tinkercad"

Here it is...

Dear Mrs Nicoll,

We are writing this letter to you because we have a problem that needs to be solved, the rubbish in school is not being put in rubbish bins. This is a MAJOR problem because this is what caused climate change. So we are asking you if we could get a school pig, this will help by encouraging people to put rubbish in the right bins and not littering.

We can have fundraisers to raise money for the pig like raffles, making lemonade to sale from lemons from people's houses, making cupcakes with pig faces on them to sale. Every-one can help by giving even $1. If every-one in the kereru hub gave $1 we would have $56.

After school every-day someone can take the pig home and feed it and look after it. Then can bring it to school the next morning.

We know you are a great principal and will make the right decision.

Yours sincere

Charlotte Kingsford

We have filled them with bright colors and spent a lot of time making them look good

Here is mine...

Tiles

In art week we made tiles and got to put our initials in to them. we had to get a ice cream container and put a bit of sand in them and then get some magnetic letters in to the sand and then take the letters out the put plaster on top of the sand.

I enjoyed making the tiles and painting the tile.

I found it hard to make sure the sand didn't crack.

Here is my tile...

Speech

Last week I said my speech to the class. I felt very nervous. This week on Thursday I will be going in the final with five other year 6's. My speech is about Orca's in Seaworld and how poorly they get treated.

Here Is My Speech....

How would you like to be stuck in a tank for your whole life. I doubt you would like it, especially if the tank was too small, had nowhere to move, and had children putting their fingers all over the glass, giving you a headache.

In Marine Parks the Orcas and other marine animals live in tanks that to us might seem huge, but Orcas can grow to be almost the size of a school bus so the tanks could be seen as bathtubs in comparison.

Careless, cruel and conniving are just three words I word use to describe seaworld. It is great that people want to see these beautiful animals, but wouldn’t you rather see a happy animal in the wild then seeing a depressed animal in captivity being forced to do tricks.

In 1970 seaworld captured their first herd of baby Orcas, taking them away from their mothers. In the process of capturing them, putting them on the boat, and taking them to land 3 baby orcas died that day.

When Seaworld got banned from capturing orcas in Washington bay they went to Iceland where they could still do this terrible thing to animals.

Tilikum was one of the most famous orcas at SeaWorld; he was the largest orca in captivity. But before he was in seaworld he was in sealand. Sealand captured Tilikum when he was just 2 years old and had a horrendous ways of teaching him how to do tricks.

They would put him in a tank with another trained Whale and get them to do the same tricks, But, if Tilikum didn't do his tricks properly both of them wouldn't get fed so the other Whale would beat him and he would have scratches all over him. February 21, 1991 Victoria Canada, Sealand worker, Keltie Byrne slipped into an enclosure with three orcas and was killed by Tilikum. People at sealand said that she drowned accidentally. But, there were eyewitnesses who identified tilikum as the orca that killed her.

After this sealand closed its doors and sold Tilikum to the seaworld in Orlando under the promise he would not be used for shows, although he was.

None of the trainers at seaworld were told that Tilikum killed keltie byrne, they were lied to and told he had nothing to do with it.

February 24 2010 Orlando Florida, seaworld trainer Dawn Brancheau got pulled underwater and brutally killed by tilikum.

Dawn Brancheau’s death is not an example of how deadly orcas are.Whales have never killed anyone in the wild and can even be described as friendly by people who encounter them in the wild. but there have been at least four kills in captivity. Her death is an example of how orca’s are not meant to be held captive. When Tilikum killed it wasn’t because he’s crazy or savage it was because he was frustrated at spending his life in a swimming pool.

Although in 2016, seaworld promised to stop breeding orcas, many other marine parks still have breeding programs. So if we stop going to all kinds of marine parks especially SeaWorld surely they will close down and stop keeping animals in captivity and they will be able to roam free.

Arts Week

Last week at school we had a art week. We got put in 6 groups my group had 19 people in it. Then on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday we got in our groups and did two different things each day in between morning-tea and lunch the things we could do were; dance fit, ukulele, screen printing, drama, plaster and digital art

Legendary Taco

“Start running!”

yelled Tim, John and Johnny (twins) football coach.

 “Hurry up you Sloths!”

The twins started running a little, they started thinking which was something they had never done, except for when they were thinking about how to get out of the UNDER-WATER CITY they lived in and, yes, I said UNDER-WATER CITY!! you EARTH-WALKERS must not Know about under-water cities well there are a few but only a few.

Anyway, the twins were thinking about how much they loved football BUT,  how much they hated the smell of Tim’s(there footy coach) breath, it smelled of SPICY TACOS because all he ate were SPICY TACOS, so, the twins had a plan, they would go to a wise KUNE KUNE(the wisest pig in there under-water city!)

When they got to the hill where the pig lived, they were exhausted. They asked the pig how to get rid of their coach's disgusting smelling breath. The pig told them of a Taco, the spiciest taco in the universe. In this taco there was; chili, minced chili, powdered chili, dried chili and more chili. They thought if Tim ate this taco it would be so spicy he would never have a spicy taco again.

BUT…

The pig forgot to tell them about the CURSE, the curse of the spicy taco was if you take the ancient spicy taco you would unleash a giant cobra!!!

So the twins set off on the adventure without knowing of the CURSE.

Days had past and they finally got to the spicy taco temple, the twins stared at it with astonishment, there right in front of them they saw the legendary taco, John ran quickly to the glowing taco but as soon as he grabbed it the temple started collapsing , the twins ran as fast as they had ever ran before, BUT  garding there way was a giant COBRA about 13 meters long AKA really long, the snake kept trying to eat them,

“1, 2, 3, RUN ” yelled Jonny in his loudest voice so his twin could hear his over the HISSING of the snake and they ran, almost as much as last time but not quite, but luckily they got there, and as soon as they ran through the doorway they found themselves back in the Under-water City. They ran to where the football coach lived and rang the doorbell as soon as Tim answered the door the twins stuffed the spicy taco into Tim's mouth. His face was bright red, his hair had turned into flames, there was smoke coming out of his ears and nose and then after that, Tim said “where on earth did you get that from,it was delicious, where can I get one from” the twins looked at each other annoyed!

Great Friends

In the Hub we were learning about what we think a great friend is.

We had to make a slide with a made up character using photos from the explore tool then on the next slide write what we think a great friend should do.

I enjoyed making the character out of photo's.

I found it difficult to get the right photos for the character and make sure they were png( which means they have no background)

Wellington Brochure

In class we had to make a Brochure for a place in new Zealand to convince people to go to places in NZ instead of places in other country's.

I enjoyed learning about wellington.

I found it hard to get restaurants to go to in Wellington.

The poem is about going to a shop a seeing all these weird things or people come out.

I found it challenging to find words that rhymed
